Spring fever

I am so ready for warm weather even if it's 55 degrees.  I want to get out in the garden and make a small lasagna garden.  I want to take a small corner of the garden, layer some newspaper, dirt and green to see how long it will break down.  I'm hoping if I get it done by the end of February it will be decomposed by planting time which is May 14.  That's about 10 weeks.  This weekend I want to clean up my spot in the basement so I can start my plants.  Mike from Spencer's garden center visited our garden club meeting.  He spoke about seed starting and what to do.  I learned that new seedlings need 18 hours of light.  New plants should be completely root bound before transplanting.  After they are about an inch or two tall I should put an oscillating fan on them so they will get strong to withstand the outdoor wind.  He also said that you should use seed starting mix and no soil.  Can't wait to get started.

Valentine's Day

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!  Today it is very windy and bitterly cold.  Usually around this time I'm itching to get my plants started.  This year I've had some medical issues which made me sick alot with no energy.  The doc finally figured out that I am B12 deficient.  No wonder I haven't had the energy to garden or keep up with it.  I've had my first B12 shot but no energy yet.  Once I get my energy back up I'm hoping to have the best garden ever.
March first I will start my tomatoes, pumpkin, cantalope, cucumber, zuchini, squash just to name a few.  My goal is to have my spot in the basement all cleaned up and ready for some planting.
