2014 Garden

This summer I tried to plant just a few things. Corn, pumpkin, tomatoes, lettuce and strawberries. Corn grew about a foot. Got one tiny pumpkin. Got several tomatoes. Strawberries did great. No lettuce. Weeds took over as always. 

New job

I finally got a good job. April 1, 2013 I started at El Paso County DHS. It's the best thing that's happened in a long time.  Still today this job is awesome. But since I got the job I have no time for my garden.  This spring I'm going to try some containers on the porch. I still love homegrown tomatoes, cucumbers and onions so I'll start there. Wish me luck!

January

It's been nice this January.  Only a few cold days so far.  This week is it's been in the 40's and 50's.  I'm been thinking about my garden.  I'm itching to start some seeds but I'm waiting.  I plan on sorting and organizing my seeds and plant journal in the next few weeks.

Garlic

I went to the Garlicfest with a girlfriend.  It was alot of fun.  Music, tasting, gardens to look at, a cook off, beer, garlic popcorn and of course garlic for sale.  I bought 2 different kinds.  I got them planted this last week.  It's been so warm I've had to water them alot.  I also bought some organic cow manure at the garlicfest so that went on the garlic bed. 

My garden this year was just onion and potatoes.  Only got enough potatoes for one meal.  But I got a whole bunch of onion.  Lacey and I had to dig them up one afternoon because of a hard freeze coming.  Onions are now in the shed in a wading pool.  We go out and grab an onion when needed.

Finally we have rain.  We had 90 degree temps for 2 weeks straight and no water.  Waldon Canyon fire destroys many homes and hillsides.  I did manage to get some potatoes, peas, radishes, corn, onion and tomatoes in the garden this year.  Not sure how that will all work out. 

I got some blue spruce trees in the mail yesterday from the Arbor Day Foundation.  I'm going to plant them in my garden area next to the flower trees they sent me last fall.  They will be protected for about 2 years then I can plant them where I want them permanently.

Since last year my garden spot got over run with weeds, I've decided to work on the soil this summer and not plant anything. I will plant some container gardens on the front porch just to have some fresh veggies.
